Therapeutic Documents

So much is said in therapy. And not all of it can be retained or held on to. Nor should it. Therapy is a place where one is able to give expression to the experiences, hopes, concerns and challenges that are with them. At MPCNT we work collaboratively with our clients to arrive at new and compelling understandings that excite one to take a novel approaches to addressing problems in their lives or relationships. But because it can be difficult to remember the ideas discussed in session, we prefer to write therapeutic documents or “Session Letters” that serves as a re-collection of the interesting and unique ideas that stood out as important.

Many therapists will provide documents to their clients in the form of instructions or a simple outline of what was covered in therapy. Not so at MPCNT. We are interested in a therapy that keeps alive the fresh ideas and invigorating conclusions that our clients come to about how to conduct their lives as they get more in touch with what’s important to them.

These letters are designed to “write out” what seems to have captured our clients imagination for whats possible, and story these possibilities by asking more questions. The “ah-ha” moment that so many seem to be after in therapy shouldn’t begin and end in the therapeutic hour, if its able to happen at all, but should be extended into the daily routines and travels of ordinary life. Asking questions about what parts of life might be most affected by these new discoveries or possibilities give our clients the opportunity to live in connection with the work that takes place in session. And our unique story telling practice further supports the change our clients are after by extending the experience of personal revelation and hope into the margins of life where the routine and the unforeseen collide, inviting our clients to become more perceptive to the opportunity to play a more significant role as the change agent in their own lives.

If you are interested in receiving therapeutic documents as a part of your session, please be sure to ask.
